The Apollo Theater

While a short subway ride will take you to the mid-town theatre district in ten minutes Harlem itself is rich in cultural attractions. Nearby Marcus Garvey Park features free live performances during the spring summer and fall. There is also a free 50M lap pool open during July and August. Many important venues and institutions are also within a few minutes walk from The Harlem Flophouse. One of my favorites is Silvana’s where the latest up and coming acts perform. The newly restored, historic Minton’s where Be-bop was born, has jazz nightly. Art with a distinctly Harlem twist is expertly curated at The Studio Museum of Harlem. Scholars from all over the world stop in Harlem to visit the unique collections at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. And I hardly need to mention The Apollo Theatre whose name has become synonymous with block-buster talent. These are just a few of the options to explore in our neighborhood.
